Homemade Honeycrisp Apple Sauce

What do you do when the recipe calls for Apple Sauce and you don’t feel like going back to the store? Well, I pull out some of my favorite kitchen “toys” and make it! This does two things: (1) helps me track the calories, and (2) eliminates preservatives and added sugar. #eatlessmovemoreprayalot

Ingredients:

  • 2 Honeycrisp Apples
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
  • Juice of 1 lemon slice
  • 1 sliver of lemon peel
  • 1/4 cup Water

Tools:

  • Utility Knife
  • Cutting Mat
  • Vegetable Peeler
  • Non-reactive Saucepan
  • Food Chopper
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Measure All Cup

Instructions:

  1. Add the water, juice of the lemon slice, and the lemon peel to the saucepan.
  2. Peel the apple with the vegetable peeler, quarter with the utility knife, and chop on the cutting mat with the food chopper.
  3. Immediately, scrape the apple into the lemon water to keep from turning brown.
  4. Repeat with the second apple.
  5. Add the cinnamon and salt, stir, and simmer over medium low heat for 30 minutes.
Add to your favorite recipe or refrigerate for a snack.
